ORIGINS

19th century France was the birthplace of the original ‘bleu de travai’ (blue work) chore jackets, simple garments made from hard-wearing cotton. They made the perfect workers' jacket with two large pockets to store tools, a loose fit, and a shorter length than a standard jacket to stop it from getting caught in machinery. Often made from hardy cotton, the jacket was built to last and withstand the tough demand of physical jobs, with tears and holes simply patched up with whatever they could lay their hands on. It had a boxed fit and shorter crop so it could be worn with overalls and other workwear attire.
